From 24st July until the 2nd August, the International Mapping Festival will be celebrating the II International Mapping Contest. More than 100 projects have been submitted to the open call for participation, in four categories:
-The professional category, aimed at artists and professionals in visual, musical and plastic arts
-Amateur, aimed at anybody wanting to take their first steps in the world of mapping
-Micro-mapping, a new competition category aimed at indoor spaces of a smaller size
-Educational, aimed at schools in Girona.
From these 89 projects, the selection committee, formed by Núria Font (director of NU2’S), Óscar Testón (director of VJ Spain), Xavi Bové (artictic director of FIMG) and Marc Batallé (technical director of FIMG) has chosen a shortlist of 29 finalists in three of the four categories of the competition -Professional, Amateur, Micro-mapping and Educational- which will take part in the II edition of the Competition on Friday 31st July, Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd August. The 10 finalists in the Educational category, aimed at the schools of Girona, will be announced soon.
The audience will get the chance to vote for their favourite mappings, while the jury will be in charge of awarding a first and second prize for each category. Prizes range from €500 for 2nd prize in the Educational category to €12,000 for 1st prize in the Professional category, and a total of more than €24,000.
